WRITING TASK 1
The charts below show the proportions of British students at one university in England who were able to speak other languages in addition to English, in 2000 and 2010.
The pie charts compare the percentages of British students at a university in England who can use other languages in two separate years. It can be clearly seen that the vast majority of students can speak at least one foreign language and Spanish is the most widely spoken second language among group students
According to the charts, Spanish was the most common second language spoken by the students in both years, accounting for about one third of the total percentage. There was a slight increase of 5% from 30% in 2000 to 35% in 2010. Similarly, the numbers of British students who spoke two and another languages rose minimally by 5% in 2010.
Nevertheless, the numbers of British students who spoke French and who did not speak any language besides English indicated a decline of 5% and 10% respectively throughout the period. It was interesting to note that there was a period of stability at 10% in the number of students who spoke German over the period observed.
Overall, British students spoke more Spanish language than the other languages.
