Question: In some countries the average weight of people is increasing and their levels of health and fitness are decreasing. What do you think ate the caused of these problems and what measures could be taken to solve them?
It is true that more people are becoming obese and their health and fitness are suffering. There are various reasons why this occurs but several measures can be taken to address the issue.
In my opinion, there are three reasons why we see a rise in obesity among people. The first contributing factor is that there is not enough time for people to spend on exercise because of traffic congestion as it will take them at least an hour to go to a fitness centre. For example, in Bangkok, Thailand, I usually work from 8.30 am. to 7.00 pm and it takes approximately one and a half hour for me to get to a gym. Another major reason is money which can be a significant issue too as fitness centre fees are not affordable for many people. Finally, the number of fast food restaurants has been increasing dramatically in recent years and people tend to love these as it is very convenient and inexpensive.
There are some measures which the government and people could take to tackle the problems mentioned above. Firstly, people should place more importance on their health and set some time out to workout. For instance, they could be more selective in their diets by avoiding fast food and consuming more of healthier food choices like steamed fish, fresh vegetables and fruits. Secondly, people could try biking to work as it is a great alternative to driving and a healthier way to commute. Alternatively, the governments could encourage or support exercise campaigns and provide free public fitness centres or gyms to help citizens better cope with rising cost of livings.
In conclusion, I believe that various measures can be taken to effectively tackle the problem of poor health among large numbers of people.
